Scottie Scheffler secured his second PGA TOUR win of the season at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, defeating the field by eight strokes. Scheffler leads the FedEx Cup standings with 4,873 points, followed by Matt Fitzpatrick (3,426 points) and Cameron Young (3,183 points).
The BMW Championship begins Thursday at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, where the top 50 FedEx Cup point earners will compete. Scheffler, the defending champion at Bellerive, is among the favorites. Rory McIlroy, who won the event in 2012, currently sits 13th in the standings.
In an interview with The Pat McAfee Show, Scheffler emphasized his focus on finishing the season strong. "I think mindset is just wanting to finish the season off the right way," he said. "I've been close this year to playing some really good golf, and last week was nice, kind of getting in there and being able to get a win."
Scheffler also reflected on golf’s ongoing challenges, noting, "We're never really close to perfecting this game. We're always just working, working, trying to improve a little bit at a time."
The BMW Championship will determine the final 30 qualifiers for next week’s TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club. Tommy Fleetwood, the 2023 FedEx Cup champion, currently ranks eighth in the standings.
Bellerive Country Club, a par-70 course measuring 7,448 yards, features bentgrass greens and has hosted major championships, including the 2018 PGA Championship. Rain is forecasted, which may soften conditions and favor elite driving and iron play.
Scheffler’s dominance at the St. Jude Championship marked a turnaround after multiple runner-up finishes earlier in the season. His performance has solidified his position as the player to beat in the playoffs.
