A multi-agency manhunt entered its third day Friday as authorities continued efforts to locate Karen Solomon, 58, who is wanted for questioning in the death of her husband, Kurt Solomon, 54, a 31-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department.
On Tuesday at 5:28 a.m., Worcester police responded to a report of a person down at the couple’s home on Wildwood Avenue. Officers found Kurt Solomon deceased inside the residence, which remains an active crime scene. Police have not released a cause of death or motive for the incident. Authorities described the death as an act of domestic violence, though no further details have been provided.
Surveillance footage released Thursday shows Karen Solomon walking near Westside Animal Clinic on Mill Street around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, approximately one mile from her home. Earlier video from Tuesday morning captured her near Westcott Street, close to the couple’s residence, just before 6 a.m.
Police Chief Paul B. Saucier has stated Karen Solomon should be considered armed and dangerous. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the U.S. Marshals Service, are assisting in the search. The Worcester District Attorney’s Office has not provided a formal update since the investigation began, and officials have not indicated when additional information may be released.
Neighbors and community members have expressed shock and concern over the unfolding events. Resident Karen Avedion described the situation as "really shocking" and said residents are anxious for answers. Another neighbor told Boston 25 News that if Karen Solomon is running, it "makes her look guilty." Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings to police immediately.
First H.E.L.P., the organization co-founded by Karen Solomon to support mental health among first responders, issued a statement expressing condolences to the Solomon family and the Worcester law enforcement community. The organization reaffirmed its mission to support first responders and their families, stating, "Our first concern is for the officer who lost his life, his family, his colleagues, and the Worcester law enforcement community."
The Worcester Police Patrolman’s Union has indicated it is providing resources to support officers and their families during the investigation. The union did not provide additional details regarding the support being offered.
The search for Karen Solomon is expected to continue Friday, with authorities continuing to canvass neighborhoods and conduct aerial surveillance near Coes Pond and surrounding areas.
