Running back Myles Gaskin announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday at age 29, capping a seven-season career that included a Super Bowl victory with the Seattle Seahawks in 2025.
Gaskin, a seventh-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2019, confirmed his decision via social media, expressing gratitude for his time in the league. "Football…there will never be enough words to explain how I feel about you," he wrote. "What I will do is give all the game you gave me to the next generation of young players who dare to be great. Thank you. It’s been real."
Core Career Highlights
Gaskin’s final NFL appearance came during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning season. He played one game in 2025, contributing three offensive snaps and five special teams snaps, totaling six yards on three carries. His most productive season was 2021, when he rushed for 612 yards and three touchdowns while adding 49 receptions for 234 yards and four receiving scores.
A native of Lynnwood, Washington, Gaskin played college football at the University of Washington, where he became the first true freshman running back in school history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a single season (1,302 yards in 2015).
Career Journey and Transitions
Selected by the Dolphins in the 2019 NFL Draft, Gaskin spent four seasons in Miami, gradually earning a larger role before a coaching change in 2022 reduced his opportunities. He recorded 972 scrimmage yards in 10 games during his second season (2020) and followed with 846 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021.
After his role diminished, Gaskin played briefly for the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings in 2023, spending most of 2024 on Minnesota’s practice squad. His final professional appearance was a Week 13 game in 2025 against the Vikings, where he gained six yards on three carries.
Gaskin’s retirement post also hinted at potential future involvement in football, expressing thanks to family, coaches, and teammates while leaving open the possibility of remaining connected to the sport in another capacity.
