Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty exited practice early on Sunday after suffering an apparent knee injury, according to ESPN’s Ryan McFadden. Jeanty was unable to put pressure on his right leg following a diving catch attempt during a team period and was helped off the field by trainers. The entire team took a knee and prayed for their teammate as he remained on the ground.
The Raiders have not yet provided an official update on Jeanty’s condition or severity of the injury. Head coach Klint Kubiak is not scheduled to address the media until Tuesday, leaving the team’s timeline for clarity unclear. The injury occurred during the team’s training camp practice, with no immediate indication of when Jeanty might return.
Jeanty, drafted No. 6 overall out of Boise State in 2023, had a strong rookie season, finishing with 975 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 17 games. He also contributed 55 receptions for 346 yards and five receiving touchdowns, narrowly missing a 1,000-yard rookie season. His best performance came in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, where he rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns after a slow start to the season.
In preseason action this year, Jeanty played sparingly, recording three carries for 16 yards against the Arizona Cardinals and did not participate in the second preseason game against the Houston Texans. Following his injury, fourth-round rookie Mike Washington Jr. took first-team reps in his place. Washington had been receiving increased practice time prior to the incident.
If Jeanty misses significant time, the Raiders’ backfield would rely on a mix of youth and inexperience, including Washington, Dylan Laube, Roman Hemby, and Dare Ogunbowale. The team’s offensive line, which struggled last season, adds further uncertainty to the running game’s outlook without Jeanty.
