Fox News announced Monday that Emily Compagno will join the network’s top-rated program ‘The Five’ as a co-host, effective Sept. 8. The move fills the vacancy left by Jeanine Pirro, who departed the show in May 2023 to join the Trump administration as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia before her Senate confirmation three months later.
Compagno will appear daily alongside Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino, and Jesse Watters, while Harold Ford Jr. and Jessica Tarlov will continue rotating in the program’s lone liberal seat. The announcement was made by Fox News Media Chief Executive Suzanne Scott, who praised Compagno’s “energy and talent” and described her as a “highly accomplished host.”
‘The Five’, which has ranked as the most-watched program on cable news in recent years, averaged 3.6 million viewers in the second quarter of 2024, according to Nielsen data. The show captured more than 64% of the cable news audience during the 5 p.m. Eastern hour, making it a ratings juggernaut for Fox News.
Compagno will step down from her role as co-host of ‘Outnumbered’, where a rotation of guest hosts will fill her seat until a permanent replacement is named. She first joined Fox News as a contributor in 2018 and became a co-host on ‘Outnumbered’ in 2021. Her debut memoir, ‘Under His Wings’, published by Fox News Books in 2024, became a New York Times bestseller.
Before her media career, Compagno practiced law in criminal defense and civil litigation, served as a federal managing attorney and Acting Director at the Social Security Administration, and worked as a Senior Judge Judicial Extern for the late Hon. John T. Noonan at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, she also served as captain of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders cheerleading squad and was later named an NFL Ambassador.
Fox News highlighted Compagno’s legal and media experience in its announcement, emphasizing her transition from a contributor to a daily co-host on one of its flagship programs. The network did not disclose additional details about her contract or the selection process for her replacement on ‘Outnumbered’.
