Two suspects accused of killing a Clovis educator in December 2025 have been extradited to California from Mexico and are now facing homicide charges. Misty Gomez, 32, and Antonio Garcia, 40, were arrested in Mexico on August 19 and transported back to the U.S. last week, according to authorities.
The suspects are accused of beating Geoffrey Bernardi, 37, to death near Barstow and Peach in Clovis on December 18, 2025. Bernardi was hospitalized and died two days later. Police say Gomez was Bernardi’s girlfriend at the time, though she was also married to Garcia.
Gomez and Garcia fled to Mexico after the killing and remained at large for months. Gomez was found with two young children from prior relationships, who had been reported missing from Dinuba in April. The children, 9-year-old Skye Mason and 12-year-old Castiel Hernandez, are in the custody of Mexico’s child welfare agency, Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF), in Michoacan. Authorities are working to reunite the children with their families.
Clovis Police announced the arrests in a news release, stating that detectives gathered evidence and communications linking Gomez and Garcia to the crime. The suspects were booked into the Fresno County Jail on Monday evening after being transported from Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County, where they were initially held following extradition.
Bernardi’s mother, Erin Adams, told reporters that Gomez had been dating Bernardi without disclosing her marriage to Garcia. The families of the missing children describe Gomez as manipulative, though they noted the allegations against her came as a shock. Both girls’ families have expressed urgency in bringing the children home.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding Bernardi’s death.
