Barry Manilow announced on August 20 that he is taking an immediate break from his Las Vegas residency after canceling multiple shows this month due to vocal and technical difficulties.
Manilow will return to performing at the Westgate Las Vegas on October 8, with additional dates scheduled through December. The singer attributed his decision to the physical demands of his summer tour, which included 29 shows in 68 days.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Manilow said: “We just finished a fantastic summer tour. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic. But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard. Now we all need to sit down and shut up.”
The announcement follows the cancellation of two Las Vegas performances over the weekend, with Manilow citing ‘technical and vocal’ issues. Earlier in August, he also postponed a concert in Lexington, Kentucky, 30 minutes before the scheduled start time, citing ‘unforeseen circumstances’.
Manilow confirmed that new dates for the postponed Las Vegas shows will be announced next week. His residency at the Westgate Las Vegas is set to resume on October 8, with performances continuing through the end of December.
The singer, who turns 83 in June, previously disclosed in December that he had been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer and underwent surgery. He returned to touring in June following a six-month hiatus. Manilow described his cancer diagnosis as ‘no symptoms’, crediting a routine doctor’s visit for detecting the condition early.
Fans have expressed mixed reactions online, with some expressing concern for his health and others criticizing the short notice of cancellations. Manilow’s management has not provided additional details regarding the nature of the technical or vocal issues.
