Sean Ono Lennon, 51, and his partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl, 39, have announced the birth of their first child, a baby boy named Aurelius.
The announcement was made via Instagram, where Lennon shared photos of the newborn and wrote: “Charlotte and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!” Kemp Muhl also posted on Instagram, sharing images of herself in the hospital holding the baby and captioning one photo “Baby Momma!”
The couple’s son is the first grandchild for Yoko Ono, 93, and the late John Lennon. Ono has two other grandchildren from her daughter Kyoko. Sean Lennon’s half-brother, Julian Lennon, 63, confirmed the birth in a now-deleted Facebook post prior to the official announcement, writing: “The most amazing thing happened in the whole wide world, I became an uncle!” He also referenced his father’s song Beautiful Boy, dedicated to Sean.
Aurelius is a Latin name meaning “golden” or “gilded.” The couple has not publicly explained the name’s significance, though Lennon and Ono have used imagery of gold in their artistic work, including The Beatles’ 1969 album Abbey Road, which features the track Golden Slumbers.
Lennon and Kemp Muhl, an American musician and writer, have been together since 2005, when they met at the Coachella festival. The couple has collaborated on musical projects, including the duo The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Lennon has been involved in multiple bands, including The Claypool Lennon Delirium and Cibo Matto, and has released three solo albums, most recently Asterisms in 2024.
In 2023, Sean Lennon addressed rumors of a rift with Julian by reposting a fan’s post on Instagram Stories, which stated: “Here, we do not accept comparisons and erroneous creations of fights about two people that John Lennon loved the most: his children.” The post included a photo of Julian and Sean at the 1986 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where they celebrated Elvis Presley’s induction.
