A Kirkland, Washington, homeowner called 911 last week after hearing mysterious banging inside their home, only for responding officers to discover a growling bobcat perched at the top of the stairs. Police confirmed no injuries were reported to the homeowner, officers, or the animal.
Officials safely corralled the bobcat into an isolated room before the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived to sedate and release it near Forbes Creek, close to its natural habitat. Authorities used a drone to monitor the animal’s movements during the operation, maintaining a safe distance while coordinating their response.
Video released by Kirkland police shows the bobcat growling while positioned at the top of the staircase. Police believe the animal may have entered the home after climbing a tree and jumping through an open window, possibly drawn inside by the resident’s cat. The homeowner’s cat was later found unharmed.
The incident occurred in the Moss Bay neighborhood of Kirkland. Wildlife officials emphasized the importance of never approaching or feeding bobcats and recommended giving the animals ample space if encountered. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife also provided guidance for residents on coexisting with wildlife in the region.
