Vice President JD Vance’s mother, Beverly Vance Aikins, said she would ‘probably punch’ Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed over remarks he has made about Vance’s family, according to interviews with Fox News and OutKick host Tomi Lahren on Wednesday.
In response to El-Sayed’s comments about Second Lady Usha Vance and the couple’s four children, Aikins stated: ‘I’d probably punch the guy if I ever seen him, and then that would get me in trouble. So, I’ll just go with the flow.’ She added that El-Sayed’s remarks angered her because ‘he doesn’t know JD or what type of person he is.’
Vance responds to El-Sayed’s remarks
Vice President Vance addressed El-Sayed’s comments during a campaign rally in Sterling Heights, Michigan, on Monday, where he was endorsing El-Sayed’s Republican Senate opponent, Mike Rogers. Vance stated: ‘Whatever you want to talk about, Abdul, keep my wife’s name the hell out of your mouth because she’s way out of your league.’
Background on El-Sayed’s remarks
El-Sayed, who is running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, has previously made comments about the Vance family during an April appearance on The Allen Analysis Show. He referred to Vance’s children as having ‘brown kids’ and suggested they would one day question their father’s political views. El-Sayed also appeared to encourage Usha Vance to leave her husband, saying: ‘Usha get out … you’ve still got time.’
In a recent social media post on X/Twitter, El-Sayed referenced Usha Vance again after Vance criticized his prior comments linking efforts to ban Sharia law to white supremacy. El-Sayed wrote: ‘So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…’
Aikins’ remarks on El-Sayed’s motivations
Aikins suggested that El-Sayed’s comments stemmed from jealousy, stating: ‘I think they’re jealous, honestly. I mean, JD is 42 years old. He’s handsome. He’s the Vice President of the United States. He’s got a beautiful wife, four beautiful children, and jealousy is the only thing I can think of.’
She added that El-Sayed could ‘take all the shots he wants’ but that her family would not engage with the remarks.
