A 70-year-old woman allegedly opened fire inside the lobby of the Port Orange Police Department in Florida on Thursday morning, according to the department’s chief. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the police station located on S. Clyde Morris Boulevard.
Officials confirmed that all officers and employees were safe and accounted for, and there was no threat to the community. The suspect was confronted by responding officers, leading to an officer-involved shooting. She was transported to a local hospital, and her condition was not immediately disclosed. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
The suspect, described as a White female, allegedly entered the lobby and brandished a handgun at civilian staff before firing a round inside the facility. The chief stated that she remained in the lobby for several minutes before officers arrived. The suspect was still holding her firearm when confronted by law enforcement, and three officers were involved in the confrontation.
No injuries were reported among officers or civilian staff. The department did not release the suspect’s name pending next-of-kin notification. Video footage from the scene showed multiple officers responding to the incident.
The police chief emphasized that the situation was resolved quickly and that the community remained safe throughout the event.
