Professional wrestler Andy 'The Butcher' Williams, 48, died on Saturday night after collapsing during a match at Enjoy Wrestling in Millvale, Pennsylvania, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed.
The incident occurred during a tag-team bout with partner Jesse 'The Blade' Guilmette at Mr. Smalls Theater on Friday. According to a 911 dispatch call obtained by TMZ, Williams was injured after hitting his head on a ring post before collapsing. Promotional staff administered CPR until paramedics arrived, but Williams was pronounced dead the following evening despite emergency efforts.
Enjoy Wrestling released a statement following the collapse, noting that doctors on staff immediately tended to Williams and that the event was canceled with attendees sent home. The promotion later paid tribute to Williams on social media, though details of the tribute were not disclosed.
Williams, known for his work in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Ring of Honor (ROH), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), had also been a guitarist for the heavy metal band Every Time I Die from 1998 until its 2022 breakup.
A witness described the scene as chaotic but coordinated, with crew members, paramedics, and audience members working together to clear a path and administer aid, including chest compressions and the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) before Williams was transported for further medical attention.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Williams’ death on Sunday, though no immediate cause was publicly disclosed beyond the head injury sustained during the match. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
Williams’ career spanned over a decade in professional wrestling, with his tag-team partnership with Guilmette, collectively known as The Butcher and The Blade, becoming a notable feature in multiple promotions. His death has drawn reactions from the wrestling community, with tributes emerging across social media platforms.
