A second attendee has died at the Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, organizers confirmed Saturday afternoon. Craig Mann, 60, was found deceased in his camp at approximately 3 p.m. local time, the Burning Man Project stated in a release. No cause of death has been disclosed, and authorities have not indicated foul play.
The death follows the passing of another attendee earlier in the week. A man in his mid-50s suffered a medical emergency and received lifesaving measures before being transported to the festival’s onsite emergency center, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released pending family notification, organizers said.
The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office confirmed receiving a report Thursday of an unresponsive man found on a festival street, with no signs of external foul play. A final cause of death is pending a medical examiner’s report.
The festival, which began August 30, is scheduled to conclude September 7. Organizers have faced disruptions this week due to severe weather, including heavy rain that turned portions of the playa into mud, forcing temporary closures of the main entrance, exit, and festival airport. Burning Man’s weather guidance warns attendees of rapid shifts in conditions, including rain, high winds, freezing temperatures, and dust storms.
The festival has not provided additional details about the circumstances surrounding Mann’s death. The organization extended condolences to Mann’s family, friends, campmates, and all affected by the loss.
