The New York Yankees have reinstated All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge from the 60-day injured list ahead of their series against the Colorado Rockies, the team announced on Tuesday.
The Yankees also designated pitcher Chase Hampton for assignment as roster adjustments were made to accommodate Judge’s return.
Judge had not played since May 31 due to a right rib stress fracture, missing 83 games before his activation. Manager Aaron Boone indicated the team had taken a measured approach to Judge’s return, noting that he had not required a minor-league rehab assignment. Instead, Judge participated in live batting practice, outfield drills, and high-velocity pitching machine sessions to rebuild stamina ahead of potential postseason play.
The Yankees enter Tuesday’s game with an 81-62 record, trailing the Tampa Bay Rays by four games in the AL East but holding a nine-game lead for the top American League Wild Card spot. Judge’s return comes as New York seeks to close the gap in the division while maintaining its postseason positioning.
Boone suggested the team may use partial game appearances to manage Judge’s workload as he regains full fitness. Judge has been working toward this return since being cleared for baseball activities in August, progressing from tee work and soft toss to full-speed drills.
The Yankees’ lineup is expected to feature Judge in right field, a position he has occupied since returning from a prior injury in 2022. His offensive production—including 47 home runs and 118 RBIs in 2022—has been a cornerstone of New York’s lineup, and his absence was keenly felt during the team’s midseason struggles.
New York’s next series begins Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium against the Rockies.
