British competitive eater Leah Shutkever has reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to eat a burrito, finishing the meal in 30.75 seconds at Guinness World Records HQ in London on August 2024.
The performance surpassed the previous record held by American speed eater Miki Sudo, who had set the mark at 31.47 seconds in 2022. Shutkever first set the burrito-eating record in 2019 with a time of 32.35 seconds, before Sudo broke it later that year. Shutkever held the title until Sudo’s record in 2022.
Shutkever, 36, from Birmingham, UK, now holds 42 Guinness World Records, including the fastest time to eat a Domino’s pizza (59 seconds) and a chocolate orange (57 seconds). Following her burrito record, she also set new records for most churros eaten in one minute (8 churros) and most strawberries consumed in one minute (613g).
Shutkever began her competitive eating career after attempting an unofficial record for eating a chocolate orange, which she filmed for her YouTube channel. A television production team later contacted her to make the attempt official, leading to her first Guinness World Record. She has since competed internationally, representing the UK in eating contests.
Guinness World Records confirmed the new burrito-eating record in an official adjudication ceremony. Shutkever described the achievement as part of her ongoing passion for competitive eating, stating: “My origin story of breaking Guinness World Records titles is one that I’ll never get bored of.”
The record attempt was documented as part of Shutkever’s broader career in food challenges, which has included appearances on programs such as Channel 4’s Battle of the Supereaters. She has previously competed in events like the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest and other high-profile eating competitions worldwide.
