Authorities are investigating the discovery of two sets of human remains on Mount Yonah in White County, Georgia, following a hiker’s report on September 9 at approximately 11:20 a.m. The remains were found near the mountain’s trails, prompting a multi-agency response.
Investigation underway with forensic analysis pending
The White County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery and dispatched investigators to the scene. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Region 8 Crime Scene Unit were later called to assist in examining the area. The remains were transported to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased, their ages, genders, or the duration the remains had been on the mountain. The sheriff’s office has also not confirmed whether foul play is suspected, stating that the investigation remains ongoing.
