Four people were found dead or injured inside a Gastonia, North Carolina, home on Thursday morning after police responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire, authorities said.
Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Gaston County Police Department. Investigators confirmed that a person of interest has been identified, though no further details about the suspect were disclosed.
The shooting occurred just before 8:45 a.m. at a single-family home near Forbes Road in Gastonia, a city located roughly 22 miles west of Charlotte. Police arrived after receiving a 911 call reporting gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers found four victims with gunshot wounds inside the residence.
Investigators believe the suspect and victims knew each other, and authorities described the incident as an isolated event with no ongoing threat to the community. The Gaston County Police Department did not specify whether the suspect was among the deceased or injured.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is assisting in the investigation, the agency confirmed. Residents were advised to avoid the area while investigators processed the scene.
A neighbor told WSOC-TV that five or six shots were fired during the incident. Another witness, a coworker of one of the victims, arrived at the home after failing to reach a friend who lived there. The coworker told reporters they became concerned after the friend did not show up for work.
