A Louisiana man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing spree that left four people dead and a child in critical condition, authorities confirmed Sunday.
Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, of Houma, was taken into custody by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office after a weekend manhunt. The arrest follows a series of stabbings Friday in the Ashland Drive area of Houma, approximately 55 miles east of New Orleans.
Deputies initially responded to a call at the 200 block of Ashland Drive, where they found a child under 10 with multiple stab wounds. The juvenile was airlifted to an out-of-area hospital and remains in critical condition, though authorities expressed cautious optimism about their recovery. Lt. Blake Tabor, a sheriff’s spokesperson, stated the child was "stable but critical" and noted that "we do believe that he will pull through."
As the investigation progressed, deputies discovered four deceased victims in nearby homes on the same property. Authorities have not publicly identified the victims or disclosed their relationship to Solet. Tabor emphasized that the violence was not a random act, though he did not specify the motive or connection between Solet and the victims.
Solet was previously charged with attempted second-degree murder in 2019 but was found not guilty in that case. In the 2019 incident, Solet told jurors he was a shrimper and had been homeless. The victim in that case, Cindy Boudreaux, testified that Solet struck her with a wine bottle and stabbed her multiple times.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed Solet was arrested Sunday but has not yet filed formal charges. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities exploring all investigative tools to determine the circumstances of the stabbings.
Tabor stated that investigators do not have information indicating Solet planned to leave the state or evade authorities. "We’re using every investigative tool that we have," he said. "Our hope is that we plan to get him in custody very quickly."
Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid the area and cooperate with law enforcement as the investigation develops.
