President Donald Trump stated he would not intervene in the case of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother charged with killing her three children, following a public plea from her attorney for a pardon.
Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, had publicly requested a pardon after the case ended in a mistrial. Trump responded that the case is a state matter, not a federal one, and noted that he lacks the authority to issue a pardon in this instance.
Trump described the situation as ‘very sad’ and emphasized that ‘there’s no winner there’, regardless of the legal outcome. He acknowledged the severity of the case, stating that ‘three children are dead’, while praising Reddington’s legal work. The president added that the matter should be resolved at the local level.
Clancy, a 36-year-old former nurse, faces three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan. After the incident, she attempted to take her own life and was left paralyzed from the injuries.
The case remains pending as prosecutors prepare for a retrial, with no federal pardon under consideration.
