A Paris court on Tuesday awarded €1 ($1.15) to Kim Kardashian for her role as a victim in an armed robbery at the Hôtel de Pourtalès in October 2016, according to legal representatives involved in the case. The amount matches the compensation Kardashian had requested.
The court’s decision comes nearly a year after eight individuals were convicted for their roles in the robbery, kidnapping, and gang association related to the incident. Kardashian, who described the event as ‘the most terrifying experience of my life,’ has previously stated she sought accountability rather than financial restitution.
Compensation for other victims
In the same ruling, the court awarded €109,516 ($126,472) to a former receptionist at the hotel, who had sought €550,000 ($634,868) in damages. The receptionist’s lawyer characterized the decision as a victory, citing the court’s recognition of trauma sustained during the robbery. The hotel itself was awarded €50,000 ($57,741).
Background of the robbery
On October 2, 2016, during Paris Fashion Week, two robbers dressed as police officers forcibly entered Kardashian’s hotel suite. The intruders bound her with zip ties and tape, leaving her fearing for her life. The stolen jewelry, valued at $10 million, included a $4 million engagement ring from her then-husband, Kanye West, which has never been recovered.
The robbers, later dubbed ‘les papys braqueurs’ (the grandpa robbers) due to their ages (six were in their 60s and 70s), were among those convicted in 2024. Kardashian has since expressed gratitude to the French justice system, stating that the ruling was ‘not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.’
Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, who was present during the robbery, issued a joint statement acknowledging the trauma while expressing hope for healing. The court’s written decisions were read to the Associated Press by the receptionist’s lawyer, Mohand Ouidja.
