LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman expressed skepticism about Kamala Harris’s potential 2028 presidential run during a public appearance on Sept. 16, citing a crowded field and what he described as a difficult path forward.
Hoffman, a major Democratic donor, also suggested that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is more pragmatic than commonly perceived. His comments came at Politico’s Decoded Summit in Washington, where he was asked about Harris’s prospects if she seeks the presidency again.
Hoffman’s 2024 Donations to Harris’s Campaign
Hoffman, a partner at the venture capital firm Greylock, has been a significant financial backer of Democratic candidates. Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show he contributed $10.25 million to Future Forward PAC, the primary super PAC supporting the Democratic ticket in 2024. This included $10 million before President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July and an additional $250,000 after Harris became the Democratic nominee.
His largest single donation on record was $10 million to Lone Star Rising PAC, which backed James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas. Since January, Hoffman has given $11.5 million to the group. He also contributed $310,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and $310,100 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Harris’s 2028 Ambitions and Political Reactions
Harris has not yet confirmed whether she will run in 2028. In April, she told the Rev. Al Sharpton at the National Action Network’s convention that she was considering another bid, stating, “I might. I’m thinking about it. I'll keep you posted.”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom indicated on Sept. 14 that he would not enter the 2028 race if Harris does, telling CNN, “I don’t know if she runs, but we'll see. I wouldn’t run if she does.”

Hoffman’s remarks follow his extensive financial support for Democratic candidates and causes. His donations reflect a strategic alignment with the party’s electoral efforts, though his recent comments suggest a more cautious outlook on Harris’s long-term viability.
