Senate Democrats gathered at the DSCC headquarters to meet with El-Sayed, with several expressing confidence in his candidacy. Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona also announced plans to campaign with El-Sayed in Michigan.
El-Sayed addressed reporters after the meeting, emphasizing shared Democratic priorities such as healthcare access, reproductive rights, and labor issues. He framed the Michigan race as pivotal for Democrats aiming to regain Senate control, stating, “We are united in so much more than people like to point to that seems to divide Democrats.”
Harris to Campaign with El-Sayed in Michigan
Former Vice President Kamala Harris will join El-Sayed for a roundtable on Black maternal health in Lansing on Tuesday, marking their first joint public appearance since Harris endorsed him following his primary victory. Harris’s spokesperson, Eduardo Negrón, stated she looks forward to “helping turn out the vote in this critical state” and framed the effort as part of a broader push to “flip the Senate” and counter Donald Trump’s influence.
El-Sayed, who previously led health departments in Detroit and Wayne County, has positioned himself as a progressive voice on healthcare, a key issue in the race. His campaign did not confirm whether he would attend a separate DSCC caucus lunch scheduled for Thursday.
