Kelly Osbourne has stated she has no hope of reconciling with her older sister, Aimee Osbourne, during an episode of the We Need To Talk podcast released on Tuesday. The revelation follows years of reported estrangement between the siblings, who have not been publicly close for much of their lives.
Kelly’s comments on estrangement
Kelly Osbourne, 41, discussed the origins of the family’s MTV reality show, The Osbournes, which premiered in March 2002 and ran until March 2005. She noted that Aimee Osbourne, 43, chose not to participate in the series, which documented the daily lives of the Osbourne family, including parents Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and younger brother Jack Osbourne. Kelly described the show’s production as intensive, with cameras present in the family home for 24 hours a day during filming.
When asked about Aimee’s decision to opt out, Kelly stated she could not share the full reasons behind her sister’s choice. "We’re not close, but I do respect her enough to, you know, keep her anonymity," Kelly said. She added, "I believe there’s a reason for everything. It just wasn’t meant to be for her."
Kelly also reflected on Aimee’s perceived distance, saying, "If I’m honest, my older sister didn’t really ever acknowledge me and my brother. She was just in her own world, doing her own thing." She further commented, "And I do, to a certain extent, if I’m honest, feel as though she was embarrassed of us."
Family dynamics and the reality show
Aimee Osbourne, who performs under the stage name ARO, lived in a guest house on the family property during the time The Osbournes was filmed. Kelly noted that Aimee’s decision to separate herself from the series was evident early on, as she moved out of the main house prior to filming. Kelly described the sisters as "very different," stating, "Everything I am, she’s not. Everything she is, I’m not. We’re like oil and water."
Kelly emphasized that while she respects Aimee’s boundaries, she does not anticipate a reconciliation. "We’re not close," she reiterated, adding that she does not expect their relationship to change.
Aimee Osbourne’s public presence
Aimee Osbourne has maintained a separate public profile as a musician, distinct from the reality television fame associated with her siblings. She has not publicly addressed Kelly’s remarks or the estrangement in recent reporting. The Osbourne family has historically been known for their high-profile careers in music and entertainment, with Ozzy Osbourne achieving iconic status as the frontman of Black Sabbath.
The Osbourne family’s reality show contributed to their widespread recognition in the early 2000s, showcasing their personal lives and idiosyncrasies to a global audience. The series’ success led to increased public interest in the family, though it also coincided with periods of personal and professional challenges.
Kelly Osbourne has continued to discuss her family’s history and personal experiences in media appearances, including her reflections on fame, mental health, and body image. She has previously spoken about the scrutiny she faced during and after the show’s run, as well as the pressures of growing up in the public eye.
