The Los Angeles Rams enter Monday Night Football against the New York Giants with uncertainty surrounding the status of star wide receiver Puka Nacua, listed as questionable due to a hip injury.
Nacua’s participation remains undetermined after he missed practices on Friday and Saturday following a Thursday session. The team has not provided an official update on his condition, though reports suggest his status is trending negatively.
A family friend’s conflicting social media post initially suggested Nacua would play, but the comment was later deleted with a disclaimer stating no knowledge of his status. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Nacua was “trending in the wrong direction” for the game, while head coach Sean McVay declined to confirm his availability.
Nacua, a two-time Pro Bowler, led the Rams in receptions (5), receiving yards (74), and targets (9) in Week 1’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams, fresh off a 27-7 defeat, aim to rebound against the Giants at 8:15 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium.
Rams Downplay Concerns as Nacua’s Status Remains Fluid
Coach Sean McVay emphasized patience, calling the 11-day gap between games “an eternity” but framing it as an opportunity for adjustment. Veteran receiver Davante Adams cautioned against overreaction, stating, “You’re a fool if you think that’s what it’s going to look like every single week.”
Defensive tackle Aaron Donald is expected to play after missing Week 1, providing a boost to a unit that allowed three touchdown passes. The Rams also await the return of edge rusher Myles Garrett, who is on injured reserve.
Nacua’s injury timeline remains unclear, with no official update on his status as of publication. The team’s medical staff has not provided additional details beyond listing him as questionable.
Contradictory Signals Cloud Nacua’s Availability
A social media post by Ivie Gonsalves, girlfriend of Nacua’s brother and former NFL player Samson Nacua, initially suggested the receiver would play. In response to a fan’s question, Gonsalves replied, “yeah, that man’s playing,” later adding, “promise.” She later deleted the comments and posted a disclaimer: “i don’t know [expletive] about puka playing. i have zero information on that.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Nacua was “trending in the wrong direction” for the game, while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show Monday, he stated it “certainly sounds like Puka Nacua is trending towards not playing tonight.”
The Rams have not addressed the conflicting reports, and Nacua’s final status will be determined closer to kickoff.
