The New York Jets have signed quarterback Will Levis to their practice squad, a move announced alongside the release of Bailey Zappe from the same roster spot.
The Jets confirmed the transaction via multiple reports, including from The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero, who noted the team is making the move to bolster its quarterback depth. Levis, who was waived and later released by the Tennessee Titans last month, will now have the opportunity to work with New York’s coaching staff and potentially earn a roster spot.
The Titans had previously given up on Levis after two seasons marked by inconsistency. The 27-year-old, selected in the 2023 NFL Draft’s second round (No. 33 overall), showed early promise in his rookie year but struggled in 2024, throwing 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while dealing with injuries. He missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Levis’ NFL career to date includes 21 appearances, 3,899 passing yards, and a 61% completion rate, according to official records. His tenure with the Titans ended amid reports of turnover issues and a lack of on-field progress. The Jets, meanwhile, are entering the season with Geno Smith as their starter and Cade Klubnik as the primary backup, leaving room for Levis to compete for a role if he performs well in practice.
The move reflects the Jets’ strategy of adding experienced depth at quarterback while evaluating their long-term options. The team has not indicated plans to replace Smith, but the addition of Levis provides additional flexibility in case of injuries or underperformance.
