Industry context
Streaming services have implemented frequent price hikes in recent years as companies seek to boost revenue amid rising production and licensing costs. Competitors like Netflix and Peacock have also raised prices, though ad-supported tiers have generally seen smaller increases. Consumers have increasingly turned to free ad-supported services such as YouTube, Tubi, and The Roku Channel as costs rise.
Disney confirmed the changes in statements to Business Insider and CBS News, with the company stating that new subscriber rates take effect immediately, while existing subscribers will see the updated pricing on their next billing cycle.
