Copenhaver recounted his experience in an interview with KDKA-TV nearly a year after the incident. He described hearing a gunshot while standing near the Jumbotron, feeling his sleeve yanked before realizing he had been shot. “I turned around, and that's when I got the second shot,” he said. “The second shot didn't hit bone. Mine went into all soft material. It was like a jolt.” His account was corroborated by family statements released through Allegheny Health Network, which thanked first responders and medical staff for their care.
