Three people were killed and four others injured early Sunday when an argument escalated into gunfire at an after-hours venue in Detroit, police said.
Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison confirmed that officers responded to the shooting at approximately 7:21 a.m. on a residential street in the city’s west side. Bettison described the scene as an after-hours establishment operating as a strip club, noting that the venue was known to authorities. Police had received seven calls to the address this year, according to Bettison.
The victims, all believed to be in their 20s and 30s, included three men who were fatally shot. Four others—two men and two women—were transported to nearby hospitals in private vehicles with non-life-threatening injuries. Bettison stated that the shooting followed an altercation at the venue, with individuals choosing to resolve the dispute with gun violence.
Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield called the incident “heartbreaking” and urged witnesses to come forward. “We know that we need more people to speak up to bring justice to the situation,” she said at a news conference. “It’s heartbreaking and our community should not suffer from this type of violence.”
Bettison confirmed that police have leads in the case but declined to provide further details about the investigation. He emphasized that the department is working to identify those responsible and described the incident as not posing an ongoing danger to the public.
The shooting marks another mass-casualty gun violence incident in Detroit, coming amid ongoing city efforts to reduce crime through violence-interruption initiatives. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been three other mass shooting events in Detroit since the beginning of 2026. Bettison did not specify whether any arrests had been made as of the news conference.
Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-773-2587.
