The victory marked the second consecutive game in which a Washington player was carted off the field due to injury. Linebacker Leo Chenal suffered a neck injury while tackling Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson and was placed on a spine board before being removed from the game. Jayden Daniels, who suffered a dislocated elbow in the previous week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, remains week-to-week and is not expected to be placed on Injured Reserve. The Commanders have not provided a definitive timeline for his return but have stated he could be back within a month.
Mariota’s contract includes a $200,000 bonus for each win in which he plays at least 60% of the snaps. With 11 such opportunities remaining this season, the bonus could significantly impact his earnings. Mariota has previously filled in for Daniels during past injuries, including last season when he started eight games.
The Commanders improved to 2-1 with the win, while the Seahawks fell to 1-2. The game also highlighted the team’s resilience amid injuries, as both Daniels and Chenal’s exits created challenges for Washington’s roster.
