Closing arguments began Tuesday in the murder trial of Caleb Flynn, a former Ohio music pastor and American Idol contestant, who is accused of killing his wife, Ashley Flynn, in February. Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder, assault, and tampering with evidence.
Flynn, 40, denies involvement in the shooting of his 37-year-old wife, a schoolteacher and volleyball coach, at their Tipp City home on Feb. 16. Prosecutors allege he staged a home invasion to mislead investigators, claiming in a 911 call that an intruder had shot his wife. Flynn was arrested three days later, on Feb. 19, after calling 911 to report the incident.

- Affair testimony: A 24-year-old woman, Alleigha Botner, testified that she had a year-long affair with Flynn while he was married. She described conversations where he allegedly expressed hatred for his wife and discussed killing her. Botner stated Flynn told her he remained with his wife only because of their two daughters.
- Police interview: Video of Flynn’s police interview, played in court, shows him denying any involvement in his wife’s death when directly asked by investigators. Flynn claimed he was in another room when the shooting occurred.
Prosecutors allege Flynn shot his wife twice in the back of the head while she slept, using a 9mm handgun that was later found missing from his truck console. They argue he manipulated the scene to frame an intruder. Flynn’s defense has not yet presented its case.
The trial, held in the Miami County Court of Common Pleas, has included testimony about AI-generated love songs Flynn allegedly created for Botner and over 100,000 text messages exchanged between them. Flynn and their two daughters were home at the time of the shooting, according to authorities.
