Federal authorities on Thursday arrested a Massachusetts man on a charge of cyberstalking conservative podcaster and former Trump administration adviser Katie Miller, alleging he made more than 40 contacts with her and her family over a period of weeks.
John Anthony Proia III, 41, of Waltham, Massachusetts, was taken into custody by the FBI and charged with one count of cyberstalking in a federal indictment returned by a Boston grand jury. The arrest follows a multi-week investigation into allegations that Proia used multiple phone numbers to send disturbing messages to Miller, her husband—White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller—and her parents between August 3 and September 23, 2026.
According to a Justice Department news release, Proia’s communications included repeated phone calls, text messages, and voicemails. The indictment states that the messages were directed at Miller and her family members, with authorities characterizing the content as deeply unsettling. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts emphasized in a statement that the alleged behavior constituted a sustained campaign of harassment intended to frighten the victims.
Legal and Official Response
U.S. Attorney Leah Foley stated in a press release that the alleged conduct “profoundly disrupted” the lives of Miller and her family. FBI Boston Division Special Agent in Charge Ted Docks said Proia’s actions were part of a deliberate effort to intimidate the victims through relentless communication.
Miller, who hosts a popular conservative podcast, publicly acknowledged the arrest in a post on X (formerly Twitter), thanking Attorney General Todd Blanche, Foley, and the FBI Washington Field Office. “Good to see a Boston grand jury indict this man,” she wrote.
Proia was arrested on Thursday and made his first court appearance later that day. His attorney did not respond to requests for comment. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston.
Scope of Alleged Conduct
Court documents allege that Proia contacted Miller at least 40 times during the specified period. The communications extended beyond Miller to include her parents, with messages sent to phone numbers associated with them. The Justice Department described the content of the messages as “disturbing,” though specific details about their nature have not been publicly disclosed.
The indictment was unsealed following Proia’s arrest, and the case is now proceeding through the federal court system. No further charges have been announced at this time.
Background on the Victim
Katie Miller is a former communications adviser in the Trump administration and currently hosts a conservative podcast. She is married to Stephen Miller, a senior White House official. Due to the sensitive nature of the case and the high-profile status of the individuals involved, the investigation was handled at the federal level.
Federal cyberstalking charges carry penalties including imprisonment and fines, though the specific sentencing range will depend on the outcome of the case and any additional findings during trial. The case remains ongoing as authorities continue to review the evidence.
