Katie Zacharia will deliver her first White House press briefing on Tuesday, marking the start of her tenure as press secretary under President Donald Trump. Zacharia has stated she intends to remain in the role until the end of Trump’s current term, which concludes in January 2027, a tenure that would surpass the previous record for a press secretary under Trump.
Zacharia, a 41-year-old attorney and mother of four, previously served as a communications advisor for the Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind Truth Social. In a social media post on Friday, she described the position as the “honor of a lifetime” and praised Trump’s leadership, writing: “His confidence is a true privilege, and his leadership is a blessing to this country.”
First Briefing and Immediate Priorities
Zacharia is stepping into the role as Trump’s popularity has fallen to record lows, with Republicans facing pressure ahead of the midterm elections. Her appointment comes amid ongoing legal disputes between the White House and the press corps. Last month, the administration restricted access for CNN, MSNBC, and Politico, outlets Trump has criticized as unfriendly. The Justice Department has since launched an investigation into five television networks that share pool video coverage of Trump.
Background and Previous Roles
A graduate of Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, Zacharia has worked for several conservative organizations. She served on the advisory board for The White Rose Resistance, an anti-abortion group named after a Christian student movement that opposed the Nazi regime. The organization describes its mission as countering “the same evils, the same apathy” faced by opponents of authoritarianism. Trump has publicly praised her “unblemished record of support” and described her as a “devoted fan and member of MAGA.”
The White House has not yet announced a formal timeline for Zacharia’s briefings, but her first appearance is expected to set the tone for her tenure amid heightened tensions with the media.
