At least 12 people, including six children, were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday evening, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets, adjacent to the stadium, following a homecoming football game.
Eleven victims sustained gunshot wounds, while three were reported to have serious injuries. Nine others were listed in stable condition, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. No arrests have been made as of the latest update.
Police cite altercation before gunfire
A preliminary investigation indicates a physical altercation preceded the shooting, though details remain under review. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell described the scene as chaotic, noting that first responders carried victims to safety due to dense crowds blocking access.
“My message to the community is this: No family should have to experience this kind of violence, this kind of fear, this kind of heartbreak,” Revell said during a late-night press conference. He praised first responders for rushing toward danger despite uncertainty about the shooters’ location or the full extent of injuries.
University and nearby institutions respond
Florida A&M University issued a statement on social media confirming the shooting occurred near its campus but emphasized that the area remained safe. The university urged community members to avoid the vicinity and expressed solidarity with affected individuals.
Florida State University, located about a mile away, issued an emergency alert advising students, faculty, and staff in the Tallahassee area to remain indoors as a precaution. The alert stated that no FSU community members appeared to be involved.
Ongoing investigation seeks witnesses
Police continue to investigate the incident and have requested that anyone with information come forward. The case remains active, with authorities reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.
