President Donald Trump made remarks about rapper Nicki Minaj’s appearance during a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, drawing attention away from his midterm election messaging.
Trump praised Minaj’s physique while also revisiting a prior comment about Republican Senate candidate Jon Husted’s body. He stated, “By the way, I’ve looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before—Nicki Minaj! That’s hard to miss.” Minaj, who was present at the rally, stood and waved to the crowd in response.
White House communications director floats Minaj as potential press secretary
Earlier in the day, Steven Cheung, director of communications for the White House, posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Minaj aboard Air Force One, the president’s official aircraft. Cheung captioned the video, “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary! @NICKIMINAJ.” The White House responded with an “eyes” emoji, while Minaj replied with an American flag emoji and a grinning face with sweat emoji.
During the flight, Cheung asked Minaj about her views on the economy under Trump’s leadership. Minaj responded, “Well, we have a president who understands economics first of all. You know, I’ve said before that the president is, naturally, a businessman. He’s worked his way out of not having a dollar left in the bank. If he can do that himself, with his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country.” She also praised Trump’s foreign policy, stating, “He’s tough internationally. He tells them what we need, not what they need.”
Trump’s remarks on Husted’s body spark discussion
Trump had previously commented on Husted’s physique during a campaign event in Ohio, saying, “I looked at his ass. I’ve never done that with a man before. Off the record—women, yes. Men, no.” He reiterated this remark at the Michigan rally, framing it as a lighthearted observation.
The president also used the rally to criticize Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for Michigan’s Senate race, calling him a “Jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member” and suggesting he undergo metal detectors at the U.S. Capitol if elected. El-Sayed, who is Muslim, has denied any affiliation with the organization.
Reactions and social media response
Trump’s comments quickly gained traction on social media, with some conservative commentators praising his unfiltered style. Eric Daugherty, a conservative commentator, wrote on X, “Everyone is LOSING IT. There will never be another like him. ZERO FILTER!!!” Others, including critics like Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch.com, highlighted the unusual nature of the remarks, stating, “We are now at the point where Trump is comparing the asses of Jon Husted and Nicki Minaj.”
Minaj, a vocal Trump ally, has publicly supported the president since 2025 and was invited to the White House in July 2026. Her presence at the rally and her interactions with White House officials have drawn additional attention to the event.
