Three people, including two juveniles, have been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to carry out a shooting at a high school in metro Atlanta, authorities announced Tuesday.
Two suspects were arrested in Georgia on Oct. 20 and Oct. 23, while the third was taken into custody in California, according to a news release from the Canton Police Department. The arrests follow an investigation by local law enforcement and the FBI, which uncovered threatening online posts attributed to one of the suspects.
The suspects face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, with ages reported as 21, 17, and one juvenile. The juvenile suspect is identified as a former student of Cherokee High School, Cherokee County School Superintendent Dr. Mary Elizabeth Davis confirmed to WSB-TV. The third suspect is also accused of disrupting or interfering with the operation of public schools.
Authorities recovered weapons and ammunition during the arrests, but did not disclose details about the suspects’ alleged plans or how advanced the plot was. The investigation remains active, and the Canton Police Department has not provided further specifics about the case.
The arrests come less than two weeks after a 16-year-old fatally shot three children and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in central Oregon, raising concerns about school safety nationwide. Local officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the latest developments.
