Background: Recent trends in U.S. stadium incidents
While large-scale shootings at sporting events remain relatively rare, incidents involving gunfire at or near stadiums have increased in recent years. In 2023, the U.S. saw a rise in mass shootings, with public gatherings—including concerts and sporting events—becoming recurring targets. Authorities in Birmingham have not linked this incident to any broader pattern but are reviewing security protocols in light of the event.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
