A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, that left one person dead and six others injured, authorities announced Monday.
The suspect was taken into custody at a residence in Suisun City on Monday afternoon, the Fairfield Police Department said. The teen, whose name has not been released due to his status as a minor, is being held on suspicion of one count of murder with the potential for an additional murder charge because the victim was pregnant. Police have not disclosed further details about the charges pending investigation.
The shooting occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday inside the Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center mall. According to investigators, the suspect entered the store and targeted a specific individual, firing multiple rounds. The gunfire struck seven people, including the victim, 31-year-old Constance Hages, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Six others were injured, with one person remaining in critical condition as of Monday.
Police identified the suspect within hours of receiving a 911 call. A school resource officer reviewed surveillance footage from the store and recognized the teen as a former student. Detectives then located and arrested him at his residence in Suisun City.
The victims, aged 16 to 43, were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions ranged from critical to stable, with one person still in critical condition. Authorities have stated that the suspect acted alone and that there may have been a prior altercation between him and a victim.
The suspect had a prior arrest record, having been detained in 2025 for a shooting in the parking lot of a local high school after hours. He was sentenced and released in that case. Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall expressed frustration with the outcome of the prior incident, stating that the suspect’s actions in 2025 should have been met with greater accountability.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about the suspect’s motives or the specific circumstances leading to the shooting. The Fairfield Police Department continues to review evidence and interview witnesses.
The Spirit Halloween store, a seasonal retailer specializing in Halloween-themed merchandise, was closed following the incident. The Solano Town Center mall, located in Fairfield, is a major retail hub in the region.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The case remains under active investigation, with no further arrests expected at this time.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
