The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned guard Bronny James and rookie guard Cameron Carr to their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, the team announced Thursday.
The move comes ahead of the Coachella Valley Lakers' season opener Friday at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert against the Salt Lake City Stars.
Bronny James, who is in the third year of a four-year contract worth $7.9 million ($4.4 million guaranteed), has appeared in just five games this season, totaling 12 minutes played. He has scored four points on two-of-three shooting, missing his lone three-point attempt. Over his career, James has played in 74 NBA games, including 42 last season, where he averaged 2.9 points, 1.2 assists, and 8.9 minutes per game.
Cameron Carr, selected 24th overall in this summer’s draft, has played three games, logging four minutes without a made field goal. His lone shot attempt was also missed.
The Lakers moved their G League affiliate to Coachella Valley for the 2026-27 season, marking their first campaign in the new location. The team’s roster depth in the backcourt—featuring players such as Austin Reaves, Collin Sexton, Luka Dončić, and Quentin Grimes—has limited playing time for James and Carr.
James, the son of LeBron James, played 27 games (one start) as a rookie last season, averaging 2.3 points and 6.7 minutes per game. He shot 21-for-67 (31.3%) from the field, including 9-for-32 (28.1%) on three-pointers, and 11-for-14 (78.6%) on free throws. In the playoffs, he played two games, totaling four minutes.
During his sophomore season, James appeared in 42 games (one start), averaging 2.9 points, 1.2 assists, and 8.9 minutes per game. He posted a shooting line of .409/.386/.857 in the regular season and played in eight of the Lakers’ 10 postseason games, averaging 5.3 minutes per game.
The Lakers enter the season with a 7-2 record, trailing only the Portland Trail Blazers (6-1) and LeBron James’ Philadelphia 76ers (8-1) for the best record in the NBA.
