A progressive policy organization has drafted a detailed 182-page blueprint outlining potential congressional investigations targeting President Donald Trump and his corporate allies once Democrats assume control of key committees in January. The document, obtained by multiple outlets, identifies specific corporations, executives, and donors as potential targets for oversight hearings and inquiries.
The plan, assembled by Groundwork Collaborative, includes a roster of Trump-aligned corporations such as Tesla, Apple, Amazon, Oracle, Trump Media, and World Liberty Financial. It also names individual executives, including Palantir’s Alex Karp and Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, as potential witnesses in future hearings. The blueprint suggests investigations could extend to executives from OpenAI, Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle, among others.
Democrats are preparing to launch myriad investigations into companies that have done business with the Trump administration, particularly in the technology, cryptocurrency, and prediction market industries, according to advisers and outside groups. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to focus on corporate actors and affordability issues rather than direct impeachment proceedings against Trump. Progressive strategists have urged caution, warning that voters may view politically motivated investigations as counterproductive.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has acknowledged concerns about repeating past missteps, noting that Trump’s popularity increased following his Senate impeachment acquittal. Alex Jacquez, a senior vice president at Groundwork Collaborative, emphasized that Democrats should avoid repeating the 2019 impeachment cycle, which he described as a misallocation of resources. Instead, he argued, the focus should remain on economic concerns and corporate accountability.
However, some Democratic-aligned groups remain divided on the scope of these investigations. While some advocates argue for restraint, others see the blueprint as a strategic roadmap to hold Trump’s allies accountable. A Democratic Senate staffer familiar with the process stated that committee leaders plan to target Trump donors and corporate allies, including those who contributed to the new White House ballroom. The staffer noted that the document reflects broader left-wing priorities for the incoming Congress.
The blueprint’s release coincides with House Republicans preparing a defense strategy to shield Trump from Democratic-led investigations. The partisan divide underscores the high stakes of the upcoming congressional oversight battles, with both sides positioning for a prolonged period of political and legal confrontation.
