A man was arrested outside LeBron James’ Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Friday evening after claiming to be the basketball star’s son, authorities confirmed.
Police responded to a report of a possible burglary suspect at James’ residence just after 9:30 p.m. local time, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Security personnel had first spotted the individual on surveillance cameras and alerted law enforcement, who located the man outside the property.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody without incident and booked on suspicion of felony stalking, police said. James was not at home during the incident; he was in Cleveland playing for the Philadelphia 76ers in a game against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Authorities did not provide further details about the suspect’s claims or motives. A spokesperson for James declined to comment on the matter.
The incident occurred as James continued his first season with the 76ers, following eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. The game in Cleveland marked his return to the city where he was drafted first overall in 2003 and won a championship in 2016 during his second stint with the Cavaliers. The 76ers lost 119-95, with James recording 8 points, 3-for-12 shooting, and 0-for-4 from three-point range. He is averaging 14.8 points, 7.4 assists, and 6.9 rebounds per game this season.
James maintains a residence in New York and frequently commutes to Philadelphia via helicopter, according to reports.
