A Florida couple has sued an IVF clinic after discovering that the baby they delivered is not biologically theirs. Tiffany Score and Steven Mills, who are white, welcomed a baby girl in April 2023 after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) at IVF Life, which operates as the Fertility Center of Orlando. However, the child appeared racially non-Caucasian, prompting the couple to seek genetic testing. The results confirmed that the baby is not related to either parent.
The couple filed a lawsuit on January 22, 2024, alleging that the clinic made a shocking error. They claim they tried to contact the clinic multiple times without receiving a response. The lawsuit states that the couple has grown attached to the child but fears she could be taken away by her biological parents. They also worry that one of their three frozen embryos may have been mistakenly implanted into another patient.
The couple's lawyer, Jack Scarola, told the Orlando Sentinel that Score and Mills 'have fallen in love with this child' and would be 'thrilled' to raise her if they could be certain she wouldn't be taken away. However, they feel a 'moral obligation' to find the biological parents and notify them. The lawsuit demands that the clinic disclose what happened to all patients who had embryos stored at the facility during the year before Score gave birth.
