Sony Group has announced a global price increase for its PlayStation 5 consoles, marking the second hike in less than a year. The company cited rising costs of key components, particularly memory chips, as the primary reason for the adjustment. The new prices take effect on April 2, 2026.
In the U.S., the standard PlayStation 5 will now cost $649.99, up from $549.99, while the Digital Edition will rise to $599.99. The high-end PS5 Pro will be priced at $899.99, a $150 increase. The PlayStation Portal remote player will also see a price hike to $249.99 from $199.99. Similar increases will apply across Europe, Japan, and other regions.
Sony attributed the price adjustments to "continued pressures in the global economic landscape," including rising memory chip costs driven by high demand from AI data centers. The company stated that the changes were necessary to maintain the quality of gaming experiences. Analysts have suggested that the price hikes could dampen growth in the video-game market this year, with Epic Games citing sluggish console sales as a factor in recent job cuts.
The PlayStation 5 has faced supply chain challenges since its launch in 2020, with previous price increases occurring in August 2024 and September 2025. Microsoft also raised prices for its Xbox consoles last year, reflecting broader industry trends.
