IndyCar drivers Scott McLaughlin and Will Power survived high-speed crashes during separate incidents at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama on Saturday. Both drivers walked away from the accidents, which occurred during practice and qualifying for the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix.
McLaughlin’s Crash During Practice
During a practice session, McLaughlin lost control of his car at an estimated 150–170 mph while attempting a left turn. His car spun out, slammed into the barriers, and broke through the fencing before stopping near trees. Safety crews quickly extracted him, and he was able to walk away uninjured. Despite the severity of the crash, McLaughlin later participated in qualifying, securing a 14th-place starting position for Sunday’s race.
Power’s Crash During Qualifying
Will Power crashed during qualifying after his car’s rear brakes failed, causing him to lock up and collide head-on with the barrier. Power, who was among the top 10 before the crash, attributed the incident to a brake failure. He was cleared from the infield care center and will start 23rd in the race. Power stated that the car was still competitive despite the setback.
