St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car crash on Wednesday night, hours after delivering a game-winning walk-off hit against the New York Mets. The incident occurred on Interstate 64 due to wet pavement, according to a team statement. Winn, who was alone in the vehicle, received assistance from local police, Cardinals security, and medical staff. He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation but was found to have no serious injuries.
The crash followed Winn's clutch performance in the 11th inning, where he hit a bloop single to secure a 2-1 victory for the Cardinals. Winn, a Gold Glove winner, has struggled offensively this season, batting .160 through six games. The Cardinals have a 4-2 record to start the 2026 campaign.
Winn reflected on his game-winning hit, stating, 'It wasn’t the best swing. But I was just trying to get to first base, just in case.' The Cardinals had Thursday off and are scheduled to play the Detroit Tigers on Friday.
