British police have arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the arson attack on Jewish community ambulances in London. The arrest occurred at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday, where three other individuals—Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons—were appearing on charges related to the incident. The fourth suspect, a 19-year-old man, was detained on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
The attack took place on March 23 in the Golders Green area of north London, where four ambulances belonging to the Jewish volunteer emergency service Hatzola were set on fire while parked near a synagogue. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident as a "deeply shocking antisemitic arson attack."
Prosecutors stated that police believe four individuals were involved in the attack, with the fourth suspect arrested as part of an ongoing investigation. The SITE Intelligence website reported that an Iran-aligned militant collective claimed responsibility, though counter-terrorism officers have not yet classified the incident as terrorism.
The three initially charged suspects—all from east London—were remanded in custody. The 17-year-old will be held in a youth detention center. The court heard that the attack was premeditated and targeted the Jewish community, though the motivation remains unclear.
Metropolitan Police have implemented enhanced security measures in response to the incident, including increased patrols and armed police presence in vulnerable areas. The suspects are set to appear at London's Central Criminal Court on April 24.
