Meryl Streep, 76, and Anna Wintour, 76, have reunited for Vogue's May issue, marking their first joint cover since Streep portrayed Wintour as the inspiration for her character Miranda Priestly in 'The Devil Wears Prada.' The two legends, both dressed in Prada, were photographed by Annie Leibovitz and interviewed by Greta Gerwig. The cover shoot coincides with the upcoming release of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2,' set to hit theaters on May 1.
In the interview, Streep reflected on balancing her career with her role as a working grandmother. She emphasized the importance of making the most of fleeting moments with her six grandchildren, ages 1 to 6, who live on opposite coasts. 'You can't get anything back,' Streep said, quoting her mother. 'So take as much as you can.' She also discussed the instability of acting, citing playwright Tom Stoppard's advice: 'You've got to shift your weight.'
Wintour, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue, praised the original film for highlighting fashion's global economic impact. She noted that while much has changed in the industry, she believes it is evolving rather than disintegrating. The two women also discussed power-dressing, longevity, and the perspective of age.
Streep revealed that Wintour's leadership and curiosity inspired her as she reprised her role as Miranda Priestly. The sequel will see Anne Hathaway return as Andrea Sachs, now working as Priestly's features editor.
