A heated confrontation between the Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves escalated into a benches-clearing brawl on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium. The altercation began after Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez hit Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler with a pitch in the fifth inning, following earlier tensions. Soler charged the mound, leading to a physical altercation between the two players. Multiple players from both teams joined the fight, which was eventually broken up by teammates and umpires.
Soler was tackled to the ground by Braves players, while Angels All-Star Mike Trout restrained Lopez. Both players were later replaced in the game. Soler entered the contest 13-for-22 in his career against Lopez, and the two were briefly teammates on the Braves in 2024. Soler, a 13-year MLB veteran, has appeared in every game this season but may face suspensions from MLB.
Earlier in the game, Braves ace Chris Sale had a meltdown in the fourth inning after walking the bases loaded and hitting Angels designated hitter Yoan Moncada with a pitch. Sale slammed a baseball against his head in frustration and later spiked a rosin bag into the ground. He allowed six runs in four innings before being removed from the game. The Angels won 6-2.
