Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has been sued for battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress following an alleged altercation at the Chateau Marmont in April 2024. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, accuses Ye of punching an unidentified man—referred to as John Doe—without warning, leaving him unconscious and causing serious injuries.
The complaint alleges that Ye approached the plaintiff in the garden dining area shortly before 11 p.m. on April 16, 2024, and struck him in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head. The plaintiff claims Ye continued the assault while he was unconscious, repeatedly punching him. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, including medical expenses and loss of earnings, and requests a jury trial.
The plaintiff denies any provocation and states he did not consent to physical contact. The complaint also alleges that Ye later repeated and embellished false accusations about the plaintiff’s behavior toward a woman at the party during a public podcast appearance.
A representative for Ye did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed responding to a battery investigation at the location but did not confirm Ye’s involvement. The plaintiff’s business relies on personal reputation and professional relationships, according to the lawsuit.
