Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida has accused Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona of misconduct, including allegations of a sexual incident and potential campaign finance violations. Gallego has strongly denied the claims, calling them "right-wing conspiracy theories" and stating he has not been contacted by the Senate Ethics Committee.
Luna told CBS News that she had confirmed with Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s office that the matter is under investigation. She claimed a woman is preparing to come forward through attorneys with allegations of a sexual incident involving Gallego. Luna also referenced possible campaign finance violations, calling the allegations "very disturbing."
Gallego’s spokesperson dismissed the claims, stating they were being parroted by a "fringe far-right member of Congress." Gallego has previously denied any wrongdoing, asserting he has never engaged in sexual misconduct or inappropriate behavior outside of his marriage.
The allegations against Gallego come amid broader scrutiny of congressional conduct, following the resignation of Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) after sexual misconduct allegations and Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) amid separate misconduct claims.
