Houston Texans star defensive end Will Anderson Jr. has agreed to a three-year, $150 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, according to multiple reports. The deal includes $134 million in guaranteed money and a no-trade clause, a rare provision in the league. With this extension, Anderson is under team control for five years, totaling $177 million across those seasons.
The Texans selected Anderson with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He quickly established himself as a star, earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection in his first season. In 2023, he recorded 11 sacks and 37 combined tackles in 14 games. Last season, he further solidified his status, posting 12 sacks, 54 tackles, and three forced fumbles in 17 games, earning his second Pro Bowl selection and finishing second in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns.
Anderson’s new contract surpasses the previous record held by Micah Parsons, who signed a four-year, $188 million deal with the Green Bay Packers last season. Anderson is now the 10th player in the NFL to earn at least $50 million per year and the only non-quarterback with a no-trade clause.
The Texans' defense, led by Anderson, ranked second in the NFL in points allowed (17.3 per game) and first in yards allowed per game (279) last season. His performance has been instrumental in the team's success, making him a cornerstone of the franchise.
The contract extension ensures Anderson remains with the Texans through at least 2028, providing stability for both the player and the organization.
